Kimberly Summer is reaching down while a cameraman is filming and another man stands with a prop bottle waiting.

Kimberly is a female BIPOC Naarm (Melbourne, Australia) based director , creative director, photographer and political dance researcher.

Over the past 15 years, she has worked with artists, organisations, government and commercial TV/Film productions across Australia. Her work is driven by a commitment to diverse representation (both from a ethnographic and class-based methodology) as a means to drive collaborative and truthful work.

As a Video Director, she specialises in movement-based performance, especially in collaborating with street dance performers from under-represented backgrounds. She is also sought out for her skills in elevating performances from non-professional talent.

As a Creative Director, she works with founders, businesses and creatives to craft their brand, particularly for those wanting to ground their business and practice in human connection. She works with independent production companies, arts-based businesses and small businesses across brand, strategy and content production.

Kimberly is also a pioneer in the concept of ‘Political dance theory’ — the idea that dance is not only about community and movement, but it is an accessible and integral tool for oppressed people’s from across the globe in their fight for liberation, resistance and representation. Her research is ongoing, but collaborates with local artists to promote the theory through community events, training and documentary work.

Her commercial work spans partnerships with brands such as Virgin Fashion Festival, M/FW, Snohetta, SBS, ABC, Seven Network, FremantleMedia, Funlabs and Champion. She is also a slated director for Monster & Bear.

Kim’s self-commissioned creative work has garnered international recognition, screened in film festivals across Spain, Canada, France, Australia, as well as being featured at COP2022.
